Perry is the daughter to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry, a director. Her first roles on television were two episodes for the character Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mom. The family did not allow her to act until she was an adult in fear of how stress can impact on their child. Perry said that she was too nervous to be an actor during high school, but started acting in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to build relationships after her transfer from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, relocated from Boston to New York in search of acting roles on television. Her small part was on shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, homesickness caused her to move to California for theater roles. The show she performed in was Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. Her father was also in the production. Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 with the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry appeared in 9 episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. Perry was a regular character as a character on ABC show, a political thriller Scandal, starring her dad. The same year, she portrayed a child version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) in which she played her mother in a youthful version. This role was given to her by way of audition even though she has a family tie to the character.
